Spinning disk systems we work on

We sell and install CrestOptics new, so those units get full support. Other spinning disk systems are evaluated system by system.

  • CrestOptics X-Light V3Installed, serviced and upgraded by our engineers, on Zeiss, Leica, Nikon, Olympus and Accu-Scope stands
  • CrestOptics CICEROComplete spinning disk confocal with integrated laser engine and camera
  • CrestOptics X-Light V2 and V1Earlier units, including disk, dichroic and filter upgrades
  • CrestOptics DeepSIMStructured illumination add-on, alone or combined with an X-Light V3
  • Yokogawa CSU based systemsCSU-10, CSU-22, CSU-X1 and CSU-W1 systems from Andor, Nikon, Zeiss, Olympus, Leica and PerkinElmer, evaluated per system

What we do on a spinning disk

A spinning disk is a whole imaging system: disk unit, laser engine, camera, stand, stage and software. One team handles all of it.

  • Disk unit not spinning, not synchronizing with the camera, or showing disk pattern in the image
  • Laser engine repair and replacement, fiber and launch realignment, power measurements at the sample
  • Camera faults, trigger and timing problems, cooling failures
  • Dichroic, emission filter and disk pattern changes for new fluorophores or sample types
  • Micro-Manager, VisiView and StarLyte acquisition software setup, licensing and PC replacement
  • De-install, crating, relocation and reinstall with camera and laser checks at the new site
  • Upgrades: add an X-Light V3 or CICERO to an existing stand instead of replacing the microscope

Why labs call an independent for spinning disks

Most spinning disk systems were integrated by a third party, so no single OEM owns the whole system.

Mixed-vendor systems

A Yokogawa disk on a Nikon stand with an Andor camera and a Coherent laser engine has four vendors and no single service contract. We service the system as a whole.

Camera and laser aging

sCMOS cameras and diode laser engines fail in predictable ways. We measure laser power at the sample and camera performance during PM, before a dim channel becomes a down system.

Upgrade instead of replace

If the stand is healthy, a new CrestOptics X-Light V3 or CICERO on that stand is usually a fraction of the cost of a new confocal, and we install and service it.

How a service call runs

The same four steps whether it is a down laser or an annual PM.

  1. Tell us the symptom

An engineer, not a call center, reviews your request and asks the few questions that narrow it down.

  2. Get an estimate

You get an advance estimate, refined with scope, parts and lead time once the system is evaluated. You approve before work starts.

  3. We do the work

On site in your lab, or crated and repaired on our bench. Lasers measured, optics cleaned, scan path aligned.

  4. Report and warranty

A written service report with the measurements taken, plus 30 days of coverage on parts and labor.

Adding a spinning disk to a microscope you own?

New CrestOptics X-Light V3, CICERO and DeepSIM units, with new laser sources and cameras, installed by the same engineers who service them. See CrestOptics spinning disk confocals on coastalmicroscopes.com.

Questions labs ask us

Do you service Yokogawa CSU spinning disk systems?

On a system by system basis. CSU-10, CSU-22, CSU-X1 and CSU-W1 systems from Andor, Nikon, Zeiss, Olympus, Leica and PerkinElmer are evaluated before we commit to a repair, then quoted.

Do you service the CrestOptics units you install?

Yes. We sell CrestOptics X-Light V3, CICERO and DeepSIM new, install them on existing stands and service them afterward. New units carry the manufacturer warranty.

Can you add a spinning disk to our existing microscope?

Usually yes. An X-Light V3 fits Zeiss, Leica, Nikon, Olympus and Accu-Scope stands with the right port and camera adapter. Send the stand model and we will confirm what is needed.

Which acquisition software do you support?

Micro-Manager, VisiView and StarLyte. We set up the software, cameras and laser engine together and can replace the control PC when it fails.

Do spinning disk systems need preventive maintenance?

Yes. Laser engines lose power and cameras drift. A PM visit measures laser power at the sample, checks camera performance and synchronization, and cleans the disk unit optics before a dim channel becomes a down system.
